Every year ESPN releases a list of their top-200 players ranked by points per reception (PPR). This year ESPN analysts have LeSean McCoy sitting in the tenth spot and injury prone Sammy Watkins sitting at number 31 on their top 200 PPR (points per reception) list for the 2017-18 NFL season.
McCoy played in 15 games during 2016 with 234 rushing attempts and gained 1,267 yards, while racking up 13 touchdowns and 50 receptions for 356 yards. For Sammy Watkins 2016 season was one to forget. Watkins was constantly battling through foot problems throughout the season. Watkins played in only 8 games and garnered 28 receptions for 430 yards and two touchdowns.
However, the Bills new head coach Sean McDermott is now running the show for and has said numerous times since taking over that he wants the Bills to be a complete team on both sides of the ball. If Watkins is able to avoid another injury prone season, you could possibly see Buffalo ending up with two players in the top 10 for PPR.
We’ve seen glimpses when McCoy is on that he’s is truly unstoppable, bouncing runs outside and off to the races. We also have seen glimpses of what Watkins can do, like when he abused the Kansas City Chiefs defensive backfield (2015) and he even undressed cornerback Darrelle Revis multiple times.
I don’t see Watkins taking points away from McCoy because all McCoy needs is one hole and he can take it to the house. I believe the Bills will have Watkins and McCoy going week to week forcing teams to pick their poison. There’s no limit to what these two very special offensive talents will be able to do in the 2017-18 season if they both are able to stay on the field.
